Maddie Zeringue

Hey ya’ll! My name is Maddy Zeringue, I am from a small town in Louisiana called Abita Springs. I just recently came into working with cattle with Mr. Kyle Schuchman and Ms. Sarah Bailey as their assistant and student as I am entering all of this a blank canvas. When they presented this opportunity to me of showing a heifer, I of course jumped out my shoes. The Lonestar Wagyu Invitational was my first show I have ever been in, and same for the five month old heifer I showed, Maddy Mo. The Lonestar invitational was far more than I ever could have imagined. The show ring was absolutely stunning with flags lined all around for Texas and the United States. The dinner hall had every seat filled with great company telling stories and sharing laughs for hours with the best food you could possibly have ever put in your mouth. The barn was filled with hard working men, women, and some amazing looking cattle to display all the hard effort these people put in every day. Even when you walk into the barn, it is evident that it is every hand on deck, and if you had your mama, papa, best friend, brother there with you, everyone was working to get these cattle looking perfect and making sure everyone had everything they needed. With it being my first ever experience, having the judges able to be there and give an informative clinic on how to properly fit your animal, how to take care of them in and outside the show ring, as well as how to lead them, what to look for, how to display your animal, all the way down to how to place your hand on the halter and the show stick properly was a blessing. The women and men that made this possible had everything planned and thought out well, had everything done for the competitors to have the best experience with their animal or even multiple animals, and made sure this was an experience no one would be able to forget in all the best ways. Luckily, with the help from absolutely everyone there and all the information I was able to gain from this, the heifer I showed and I was able to make it to the finals. It was truly a surreal take your breath away kind of moment, and I am so excited for the next one. Maddy Mo and I are ready and working towards the Dixie Nationals, and we hope to see everyone there again!
